Jeremy Young is a member of various projects, including the poetry_sound duo Cloud Circuit, the electroacoustic modern classical trio Sontag Shogun, and library music waveriders Associated Sine Tone Services. His long-evolving solo practice makes use of a sine and square wave oscillator system, 1/4″ magnetic tape, filtered radio and EMF signal, and foley-inspired sound treatments from amplified surfaces and objects. 

Working out of his home studio, “Studieau Royale,” his arsenal of monophonic oscillators takes the place of keyboard-format synths and instrumentation. Rather, because each machine only emits a single frequency at a time, every note he plays (both live and in-studio) must be tuned by hand and by ear, and employed by voltage attenuation. It’s tubes, magnets, and pure electricity. It’s in this highly personal tai chi of bodily coordination that Young has built through haptics-sensitive praxis and a deep listening ethos, which anchors his McLuhan-esque credo that the tonal content of a musical work is equally as meaningful as the auditory medium on which it was recorded, edited, and played back.

Virtuosic multi-instrumentalist and one of Canada's leading lights in improvised music, Colin has a long and storied career, having performed alongside the likes of Jaime Branch, Joe McPhee, William Parker, Laraaji, Gerry Hemmingway, and Fred Frith, he has contributed to recordings by the Constantines (Sub Pop),Bernice (Arts & Crafts), Rhys Chatham (Table of the Elements), Born Ruffians (Warp), Anthony Braxton and AIMToronto Orchestra (Spool), and many more.
